Women’s Economic Empowerment in Georgia

This issue brief, developed under the UN Women project Women’s Increased Leadership for Democracy in Georgia (WILD) with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, provides a concise overview of the current state of women’s economic empowerment in Georgia. Drawing on the 2023 Country Gender Equality Profile and other key studies, it highlights a persistent gender gap: despite women’s equal — and often superior — educational achievements compared to men, these do not translate into equitable economic outcomes. The brief underscores systemic barriers that hinder women’s participation in the labor market, leadership roles, entrepreneurship, and access to assets, finance, and equal pay. Through data-driven insights, the publication sheds light on the structural inequalities that must be addressed to advance gender equality in Georgia’s economic sphere.
