President Costa discuss Russian war against Ukraine in his meeting with Chinese Prime Minister

China’s involvement in Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine was one of the topics discussed at a meeting between European Council President António Costa and Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

The meeting took place on 28 October, in the margins of the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur.

“I expressed the EU’s expectation that China helps to put an end to the war,” António Costa told journalists after the meeting. “This war is an existential security threat for the EU. The EU will continue to increase pressure on Russia.”

On 23 October, the EU adopted its 19th package of sanctions against Russia. It includes measures against Chinese companies that provide direct or indirect support to Russia’s military-industrial complex or participate in circumventing sanctions.
