The Foreign Affairs Council, taking place today in Brussels and chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, will discuss Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, after an informal exchange of views in the presence of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
Upon arrival, Kallas told reporters that the Council would start with Ukrainian civilians detained in the occupied territories: “These are teachers, these are journalists. We have the NGOs here from Ukraine who are dealing with this, and we are also discussing what more we can do.”
Regarding EU sanctions against Russia, Kallas said the Council could agree on 250 new listings.
“We are also working for the 21st sanctions package, where we do not have agreement yet,” Kallas said. “This is the biggest number of listings we have done so far. It is also [in] reaction to the attacks that Russia has had on civilians recently.”
EU foreign ministers will also discuss the Black Sea strategy, addressing the protection of critical infrastructure and hybrid threats in this region.
“We are going to also agree on a new Partnership Mission for Armenia to fight the hybrid threats and FIMI that they are really encountering there,” Kallas said.
Among other topics are the Middle East, Western Balkans and Sudan.
