EU-funded project offers strategic support grants for Moldovan media sector

The project on ‘Supporting Independent Media and Quality Journalism in Moldova (SMIR)’ has announced a grant call for strategic support for the media sector.

The call is designed to improve the quality of journalistic content and enhance the ability of independent media rapidly to manage short- and medium-term challenges, ensuring they remain operational and better prepared for future crises.

Applicants will receive tailored assistance based on their specific needs. Eligible activities include strategic planning, improving content quality, digitalisation and digital security, legal assistance, and psychosocial support.

The grant request should fall between a minimum of €7,000 and a maximum of €7,500.

The applicant should be an officially registered independent and non-political media organisation with at least two full-time employees and a significant audience. Applicants should have been active for at least two years, producing high-quality content of public interest that promotes democratic values in Moldova and facing challenges (financial, administrative, human resources, etc.) that significantly limit its ability to operate.

The deadline for applications is 30 November 2025.

‘Supporting Independent Media and Quality Journalism in Moldova’ is a project implemented between 2024–2026 by ERIM in partnership with the ‘Cu Sens Media’ Project, with financial support from the European Union and the Soros Foundation Moldova.
