This report presents the findings of a community-led study on the impact of Russia’s full-scale invasion on women living with HIV in Ukraine. It explores how the war has affected their employment, economic stability, access to housing and property, and personal relationships. Particular attention is given to how these women experience compounded vulnerability due to both their HIV status and the broader challenges of wartime displacement, violence, and social disruption.
The research also assesses how access to health care, HIV-related services, and psychosocial support has changed since the beginning of the war. It highlights growing barriers to receiving timely treatment and support, as well as difficulties in family planning and child-rearing under crisis conditions. The report was developed under the leadership of women from the affected community and supported through the UNAIDS UBRAF Country Envelope and UN Women’s project “Transformative Approaches to Achieving Gender Equality in Ukraine,” with funding from Sweden and in cooperation with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration.
