The European AI Office has developed a Digital Twin for Reconstruction of Ukraine that generates 3D virtual replicas of cities to track urban planning projects, ensuring transparency and accountability.
The European AI Office is developing these technologies to address the urgent needs of countries such as Ukraine.
By using data sources such as satellite images, AI models assess damage and create a 3D virtual replica of the city, a ‘Digital Twin’.
These AI models will help public authorities define reconstruction plans, enhance urban planning, and precisely quantify budgetary needs. The ‘Digital Twin’ equips decision-makers and urban planners with advanced AI models to track projects throughout the urban planning cycle.
Citizens will be able to participate and give their views on the preferred reconstruction proposal by accessing the virtual replica through enhanced and immersive reality. AI will then translate these reconstruction proposals into precise cost estimates, based on several factors like level of damage, materials and type of buildings.
