EcoVoucher: EU supports another 3,000 families in Moldova to purchase energy-efficient appliances

Today, a new round of the Appliance Voucher Programme starts in Moldova. The initiative is part of the joint efforts of the government and the European Union to improve energy efficiency in the residential sector and to promote more sustainable and responsible energy consumption.

The EcoVoucher Programme offers households the opportunity to reduce electricity consumption and costs by replacing old appliances with new, energy-efficient equipment. Beneficiaries will be able to use vouchers worth 6,000 MDL, covering up to 70% of the cost of appliances (but not exceeding the voucher value), for the purchase of refrigerators (including those with integrated freezers) and washing machines. Each appliance purchased under the programme must meet energy efficiency criteria and European Conformity (CE) standards.

In this edition, vouchers will be primarily allocated to families with the highest number of children and to individuals over the age of 63. At the same time, a new category of beneficiaries has been introduced: 10% of the total number of available vouchers will be allocated to persons with severe disabilities, selected based on the specific needs of their households.

“Behind every voucher is a household that will consume less energy and pay lower bills,” said Iwona Piórko, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.

To be eligible, beneficiaries must be registered in the ‘Energy Vulnerability” information system. They will be notified via SMS or email about voucher availability and will be able to access them through the platform compensatii.gov.md. To redeem the voucher, beneficiaries must hand over an old appliance of the same type.

Data from the National Centre for Sustainable Energy shows that since the programme’s launch, 40,033 large appliances have been replaced. Over their entire lifetime, the generated savings exceed 6.5 million kWh, equivalent to more than 24 million MDL. It is estimated that the more than 40,000 appliances installed since the beginning of the programme will generate annual savings of approximately 8.15 million kWh, equivalent to around 30.1 million MDL.

With an estimated total budget of €1 million, the current round of the EcoVoucher Programme is funded by the European Union through the ‘Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in the Republic of Moldova’ (E4M) project, implemented by GIZ.
