Borrell: Azerbaijan’s establishment of Lachin corridor checkpoint runs counter to EU efforts to reduce tensions

Azerbaijan’s unilateral establishment of a checkpoint along the Lachin corridor runs counter to European Union calls for reducing tensions and solving issues by dialogue, EU High Representative Josep Borrell said on Twitter yesterday.

On 23 April, Azerbaijan announced that it had set up a checkpoint in the Lachin corridor. This is the only road connecting Armenia to the contested Nagorno-Karabakh region.

“The EU continues to engage in promoting peace and stability in the South Caucasus. Rights and security of Karabakh Armenians must be ensured,” said Borrell.
