This May, Armenia officially launched a new Greenhouse Gas Emissions Registry and Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) platform.
This digital initiative, kicked off on 14 May by the Armenian Environment Ministry, aims to significantly improve emissions monitoring, enabling the country to remain on track to meet its commitments under the Paris Agreement.
The new MRV platform was developed as part of the EU4ClimateResilience (ProGress) project. By providing data-driven, evidence-based tracking, the platform serves as a main tool for Armenia’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 44% by 2035, as part of its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0) framework.
Following the launch, the Ministry hosted a roundtable discussion with key international development partners, including the EU Delegation to Armenia. The session focused on mapping out Armenia’s immediate technical and financial needs, ensuring all international efforts are closely aligned to accelerate the country’s climate goals.
“By building a verifiable data foundation, Armenia is transitioning from climate pledges to measurable, accountable climate action, paving the way for a more resilient and sustainable economy,” the EU Delegation to Armenia said in a press release.
The EU4ClimateResilience project is a regional initiative designed to foster green transitions, decarbonisation, energy security, and climate adaptation across the Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries. The project is co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection (BMUV), and jointly implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
