EU for Circular Economy and Green Growth – Support to the Transition of Albania Towards a Circular Economy
Təsvir
'EU for Circular Economy and Green Growth – Support to the Transition of Albania towards a Circular Economy' supports Albania’s shift to a resource-efficient, climate-resilient and competitive green economy. Implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Environment (MoTE), the action strengthens the regulatory framework, institutional capacities and market conditions necessary for the transition to a circular economy (CE).
The project focuses on aligning waste management legislation with the EU acquis, establishing Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems, strengthening enforcement capacities and promoting sustainable production and consumption patterns. At a local level, it supports municipalities in implementing circular waste management measures, such as composting centres and material recovery facilities. In parallel, it fosters green innovation through business support schemes, a green incubator and sub-granting mechanisms targeting SMEs, CSOs and research institutions. By combining policy reform, institutional strengthening and private sector development, the action contributes to environmental protection, green job creation and sustainable economic growth in Albania.
