Promoting Gender Equality in the Eastern Neighbourhood Region

The report Promoting Gender Equality in the Eastern Neighbourhood Region synthesises evidence on the drivers and opportunities for promoting gender equality in the Eastern Neighbourhood region. Although equality between women and men is enshrined in the constitutions and legal systems of Eastern Neighbourhood countries, women are still subject to social discrimination. Discriminatory laws, social norms, and practices rooted in patriarchal systems have negative consequences and act as drags upon gender equality. This report considers areas where there are outstanding opportunities to improve women’s situation in Eastern Neighbourhood countries.

This report was prepared by the Institute of Development Studies, for the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
