Gender-based disinformation as a hybrid risk vector in the Republic of Moldova

This op-ed analyses gender-based disinformation as a form of hybrid threat affecting democratic processes and women’s participation in public life. It examines how manipulative narratives targeting women, particularly leaders, journalists, and activists, are used to undermine credibility and discourage engagement in political and public spheres. The article highlights the role of stereotypes, social media dynamics, and information vulnerabilities in amplifying such campaigns. It concludes that gender-based disinformation poses risks not only to equality but also to democratic resilience, calling for strengthened media literacy, monitoring mechanisms, and coordinated responses across institutions and civil society.
