Most people in Ukraine see good relations with EU and would vote for accession, poll shows

Eighty-two per cent of Ukrainians say their country has good relations with the European Union (21 points up since 2016), almost two-thirds (65%) support EU accession, and more than three-quarters (77%) believe membership would bring more advantages than disadvantages to Ukraine, according to the 2026 annual survey of opinion in Ukraine.

The survey was conducted in January-February 2026 and involved face-to-face interviews with a representative sample of 1,042 people across the country. The opinion polls have been carried out annually by the EUNEIGHBOURS east Programme in Ukraine and the other countries of the Eastern Partnership since 2016.

The latest poll found that trust in the EU now stands at 82% – up from 76% last year and the highest level in a decade – with the EU ranked highest among all of Ukraine’s international partners. An overwhelming 96% of respondents were aware of the EU’s financial support to Ukraine, and 69% judged it effective; 47% identified the EU as the largest financial contributor, and 90% considered its support high or moderate — the highest among all surveyed international actors.

More than half of those asked (55%) have a positive view of the European Union, compared to just 5% with a negative view.

Three-quarters of respondents (75%) believe Ukraine will join the European Union at some stage, 19% of them within five years. The top perceived benefits of joining the European Union are peace and security (69%), fight against corruption and organised crime (55%), and open borders with visa-free travel (54%).
