Young European Ambassadors bring Model of European institutions to Bucha, Ukraine

On 25-26 April, in Bucha, Ukraine, Young European Ambassadors organised a two-day Model of European Institutions, bringing together around 50 young people aged 16-25 from the Kyiv region to explore how the European Union works through interactive simulations and debates.

The event provided participants with an opportunity to step into the roles of diplomats and heads of state representing EU Member States, simulating the work of key institutions, including the European Council and the Council of the European Union. Through committee work, moderated debates and policy negotiations, participants explored how decisions are discussed and agreed upon at the European level.

At the opening of this event, YEAs introduced the EU NEIGHBOURS EAST programme and its part, the Young European Ambassadors initiative. YEAs also conducted an interactive Kahoot quiz on European institutions and their roles.

Over the two days, participants drafted resolutions addressing current political and international challenges, while developing their skills in negotiation, public speaking and teamwork. The simulation encouraged active engagement in discussions on European cooperation and democratic processes.
“Big thanks to the Young European Ambassadors for this project. It was through it that I gained my first experience leading a team, which opened up new horizons for my professional life,” said Yevhenia Zaiva, a participant of the event.

“I was truly inspired by the level of engagement and interest shown by young people in my region. By bringing together around 50 participants for two days, eager to actively engage in discussions about the EU, highlights the importance of creating such spaces for youth dialogue,” added Svitlana Palamarchuk, a Young European Ambassador from Ukraine and organiser of the event.

The event concluded with a closing ceremony, during which all participants received certificates recognising their participation. Additionally, participants had the opportunity to hear from a YEA from Ukraine about her experience visiting Brussels and participating in the 30th anniversary event of the TAIEX programme.

The Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) initiative brings together socially engaged youth from the six Eastern Partner countries, the European Union and the United Kingdom to foster dialogue and to raise awareness about the EU and its cooperation with its Eastern partner countries.
