Ukraine: Safety Centre opens in Zaporizhzhia Oblast with EU support

A Safety Centre has opened in the Shyroke community in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, the United Nations Development Programme announced on 6 July. UNDP and the European Union contributed to the establishment of the complex by providing it with the furniture and basic equipment necessary for the daily operations of emergency services.

The centre brings together under one roof the services that are the first to respond to emergencies: community police officers, the fire and rescue service, medical professionals, and community rescue officers.

The centre will strengthen coordination among services and enable a more rapid response to emergencies and security challenges that the region and surrounding communities constantly face. Thanks to its convenient location, emergency services will be able to reach the scene within 15 minutes, ensuring a higher level of protection and greater peace of mind for thousands of residents of the Shyrokyvska community.

Combining various sources of funding and support made it possible to implement solutions that will benefit all 35 settlements in the community, improving people’s access to emergency assistance and essential services.
