Security in Ukraine and Europe: Borrell takes part in call between EU, USA, NATO and OSCE

On Wednesday night, EU High Representative Josep Borrell participated in a first quadrilateral call with US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg and Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau, who chairs the OSCE.

They discussed Russia’s military build-up around Ukraine as well as ongoing bilateral and international diplomatic engagements related to Russian attempts to re-define security arrangements in Europe.

All sides reaffirmed the need to uphold the fundamental principles of the existing European security architecture and underlined their determination to continue intense consultations on identifying ways to solve the situation and to present a strong, clear and united transatlantic front.

Earlier on Wednesday, Borrell confirmed to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba the EU’s firm and unchanged support to Ukraine. In their phone call, Borrell and Kuleba exchanged views on the international diplomatic engagements in response to Russia’s threats and discussed the recent cyberattack targeting Ukraine.
