More than 86,000 Ukrainian soldiers trained and equipped by EU Military Assistance Mission

By early 2026, more than 86,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been trained and equipped under the European Union Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM UA), the Diplomatic service of the European Union – the European External Action Service (EEAS) – announced on 9 January.

The EEAS described this achievement as “a testament to sustained European support and solidarity in helping Ukraine defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity”, and “an impressive and unwavering commitment to strengthening the Ukrainian Armed Forces”

Established in October 2022 at Ukraine’s request, EUMAM UA provides coordinated, high-quality training across EU territory, covering individual, collective and specialised skills, from basic combat and tactical planning to medical care, demining and advanced weapon-system familiarisation.

The mission brings together instructors and resources from EU Member States and like-minded partners to deliver training tailored to Ukraine’s evolving needs.
