Moldova: sentencing of pro-Kremlin oligarch is significant step for justice, says EU

The European Union has expressed its support for the decision by the Chisinau Court of Appeal to sentence pro-Kremlin fugitive Moldovan oligarch and opposition party leader Ilan Shor to 15 years in prison.

On 14 April, Shor was convicted in absentia of the billion dollar bank fraud in 2014.

Spokesperson for EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Nabila Massrali wrote on Twitter that this is “a significant step for justice and the fight against corruption”. She added that “the EU will continue supporting Moldova in its reform process”.
