Moldova: Joint Declaration on promoting and supporting ESG principles signed by 40 business associations 

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Moldova announced on 24 July, just one month after the publication of the Joint Declaration by business associations on promoting and supporting ESG principles (environmental, social and corporate governance), that it was signed by 40 representatives of business associations and the business community from both banks of the Dniester.

Through this initiative, UNDP, the European Union, Sweden, and the UK are supporting the business community as it aligns its operations with international sustainable development standards and capitalises on the opportunities presented by integrating ESG principles into business operations. The benefits of ESG are also being promoted as part of the ‘ESG for Strong Business’ awareness and education campaign, run by the UNDP, to familiarise companies with the benefits of sustainable development in an accessible and practical way.

By joining this initiative, the organisations are making a voluntary commitment to promote ESG principles amongst their members and partners, helping to raise awareness and gradually introduce sustainable practices into the business environment. At the same time, they are taking on the role of promoting sustainable competitiveness, the efficient use of resources and responsible business management.

To support this process, representatives of the signatory organisations have already taken part in two training sessions on best ESG practices, and will soon be able to benefit from new capacity-building and knowledge-sharing events.

Previously, with financial support from Sweden, the UK and the UNDP as part of the ‘Developing Export Potential on the Banks of the Dniester’ (AdTrade) project, more than 180 companies and stakeholders from both banks of the Dniester deepened their knowledge of ESG.

The declaration remains open for endorsement, and other business support associations and organisations are invited to join this initiative.
