Members of the European Parliament visit Moldova

Six Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have travelled to Chișinău, the capital of Moldova, for the 16th meeting of the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, taking place on 5 December.

The EP delegation was led by Siegfried Mureșan, Romanian economist and politician, and vice-president of the European People’s Party (EPP).

During their visit, the MEPs met President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Doina Gherman, and other officials, as well as representatives of civil society.

Discussions centred on Moldova’s path toward EU accession. The MEPs highlighted the key role of the Moldovan Parliament in this process – from aligning national legislation with EU standards to overseeing ongoing reforms. They also said that Moldova’s deputies could count on strong EU support, and particularly from the European Parliament, throughout the accession journey.
