“La mulți ani, Moldova! Today, we celebrate your independence, your achievements, your identity & traditions. A moment of pride,” European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos posted today on X, congratulating Moldova on the 34th anniversary of its independence.
“While you move forward on your EU path, Europe will continue to stand by your side to build a brighter future for all Moldovans,” she added.
On the eve of the Independence Day celebrations, from 25-26 August, 27 mayors from Moldova visited Brussels at the invitation of Marta Kos.

In Brussels, they learned how European institutions work, discussed prospects for cooperation with members of the Committee of the Regions, the European Association for Democracy and the Council of Municipalities, and delved into the EU enlargement process.
The mayors also met with Gert Jan Koopman, Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood (DG ENEST).
