European Authors Day initiative celebrates reading and European literature

Celebrations of the 2025 European Authors Day started on 11 November and will last until 12 December under the hashtag #ReadForReal.

The European Authors Day initiative promotes European literature and encourages interest in reading. It inspires younger generations to explore the richness of European literature.

In 2024, more than 2,000 events took place in schools, bookshops, libraries and other organisations, including reading aloud sessions and meetings with European authors.

In 2025, the EU’s Creative Europe programme invites local event organisers such as schools, libraries and bookshops to organise their own reading events, including in Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.

Find the organisation in your country where you can pick up printed materials for organising European Authors Day ReadForReal events and receive expert assistance in your native language.
