EU welcomes Moldova’s ratification of Istanbul Convention on preventing violence against women

The EU has welcomed Moldova’s ratification of the Istanbul Convention, the legally binding international instrument on preventing and combating violence against women and girls, which establishes a comprehensive framework of legal and policy measures for preventing such violence, supporting victims and punishing perpetrators. 

The Istanbul Convention requires criminalising and legally sanctioning different forms of violence against women, including domestic violence, stalking, sexual harassment and psychological violence.

“With this, I believe that women and girls in Moldova will become stronger and even more active part of the society,” said EU Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Janis Mazeiks.
