EU-supported COVAX Facility delivers 705,600 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to Ukraine

On 3 June 2021, Ukraine received 705,600 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine through the EU-supported COVAX Facility, bringing to more than a 1.6 million doses the total number of COVID-19 vaccines so far been delivered to Ukraine via COVAX.

This batch is meant for vaccination with the second dose of those who received the first shot of CoviShield/AstraZeneca. In particular, this concerns healthcare professionals and employees of health care facilities, participants of the Joint Forces Operation in eastern Ukraine, social workers, clergy, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine, and people aged 65+.

Ukraine joined COVAX with the support of Team Europe, the WHO, UNICEF and other international partners. AstraZeneca vaccines are being delivered by the UNICEF supply department.

As part of the Team Europe approach, since early 2020 the EU has mobilised over 190 million to help Ukraine face the challenges of COVID-19, supporting its health system, frontline workers, small and medium-sized businesses and vulnerable groups.
