EU representatives in Kyiv meet Belarusian democratic leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya


On 26 May, representatives of the European Union and EU Member States held a constructive exchange in Kyiv with visiting Belarusian democratic leader, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.

During the meeting, participants underlined the EU’s unwavering support for the Belarusian people’s quest for a free, democratic, sovereign and independent Belarus, reaffirming a shared commitment to a peaceful and inclusive democratic transition of power. They also discussed support for the Belarus democratic movement.

On 25 and 26 May, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya paid her first official visit to Ukraine. She visited the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, Pripyat and Kyiv.

“Belarus and Ukraine share more than a border. We share the same hope: to live freely, safely, and without fear of empire or dictatorship. Today, Ukraine is defending this future with enormous courage.Belarusians know that Ukraine’s victory brings our own freedom closer,” Tsikhanouskaya posted on X.

In Kyiv, Tsikhanouskaya met Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“We all support the aspiration of the Belarusian people to free themselves from Russian interference, and we know that Russia is now trying to drag Belarus even deeper into this war against Ukraine,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

in Kyiv, Tsikhanouskaya also officially opened the Mission of Democratic Belarus in Ukraine for more systematic cooperation between democratic Belarus and Ukraine.
