EU Enlargement Commissioner concludes visit to Armenia in Gyumri

On 20 March, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos spent the second day of her two-day visit to Armenia in Gyumri, Shirak region.

Marta Kos visited EU-funded enterprises supporting social inclusion, local economic growth and job creation. She visited Lanjik bridges, a women-led sewing cooperative, and Shara Sweets bakery.

In 2024 alone, EU programmes supported more than 7,000 Armenian businesses, creating more than 20,000 jobs.

The Commissioner also visited Gyumri’s historic marketplace, currently under EU-funded restoration and an innovation hub promoting youth skills in technology and design.

Commissioner Kos also delivered a speech at Shirak State University and met with Young European Ambassadors, as well as with local civil society representatives and journalists involved in EU-funded projects to exchange views on their work and discuss their role in safeguarding Armenia’s democratic resilience.

A day earlier, Commissioner Kos met Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan to review progress on the EU’s €270 million Resilience and Growth Plan for Armenia.

Two new financing agreements worth €135 million for the financing of the Caucasus Transmission Network project were signed in her presence.
