EU, EIB, E5P and UNDP inaugurate two kindergartens in Yerevan

On 18 March, the EU Delegation to Armenia and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) together with the representatives of European Investment Bank (EIB) inaugurated two kindergartens (№138 and №74) in Yerevan, which benefitted from a grant from the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Fund (E5P).

These upgrades were made possible through a strong partnership with Yerevan Municipality, the European Investment Bank, E5P donors, and support from the Green Climate Fund.

The deep energy-efficiency and seismic retrofits now provide children with safer, warmer, and more inclusive learning environments.

“This milestone contributes to a broader effort to modernise public buildings, reduce energy use, and accelerate Armenia’s sustainable urban development. With energy savings reaching up to 60%, these transformations bring tangible benefits to communities and support the country’s climate commitments,” UNDP Armenia said in a Facebook post.

With support from international partners, Yerevan has completed seismic surveys for 49 kindergartens, carried out energy audits in 46, and prepared full retrofit and safety design packages for 34. The project oversaw construction works in 14 kindergartens, including №138 and №74, while also supervising horizontal efficiency measures across 47 municipal buildings. It further delivered energy audits for four public facilities and helped introduce an energy management system within Yerevan Municipality.
