EU and UK diplomats in Belarus mark Dziady at Kurapaty memorial

On 30 October, diplomats from EU countries and the United Kingdom working in Minsk, including the head of the EU Delegation Steen Noerlov, visited the Kurapaty memorial near Minsk to honour the victims of mass killings committed by Stalin’s regime. They  paid their respects to the victims of repression and laid flowers.

The event was timed to coincide with Dziady, the day when Belarusians commemorate their ancestors.

“As a people’s memorial, Kurapaty bears witness to the tireless efforts of many Belarusians who have taken care to protect the dignity of the victims and the national historic memory over the decades,” says a Facebook post by the EU Delegation to Belarus.

The monument was inaugurated in 2018,  and diplomats have been visiting it every year since then.
