EBRD lends €100 million to Moldova for road upgrades

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide Moldova with a €100 million loan to finance road rehabilitation near the Ukrainian border, in addition to the existing €150 million loan provided in 2013 for road upgrades.

The EBRD loan will help the Moldovan government ensure that key road links between Soroca and Arionesti (46 km) and from Arionesti to the Ukrainian border at Otaci (9.5 km) are up to standard. Improving the quality of these roads will contribute to economic growth, regional integration and trade.

“Moldova is a gateway between the European Union (EU) to its west and countries to its east. The Pan European Corridor IX runs east-west through Moldova, passing through its capital, Chisinau, and also connecting to the southern ports of the Black Sea and Istanbul, which provide access eastward to the Caucasus and Central Asia,” said a press release by EBRD.
