Armenia: EU4Sevan+ project launched in Gavar

On 9 December, the European Union and Germany launched the EU4Sevan+ project in Gavar.

This new project is co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is implemented by GIZ.

This project builds on the experience of the EU4Sevan project (implemented from 2020 to 2025), and aims to improve water resource management and wastewater treatment in Lake Sevan, and to support Armenia in overcoming challenges in the water sector.

At the opening of the event, EU Ambassador to Armenia Vassilis Maragos reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to environmental sustainability, economic development, and cultural preservation, paving the way for more resilient and sustainable management of natural resources in the region and in Armenia.

“The EU will continue to protect Lake Sevan, a vital ecological and economic resource for Armenia, serving as a primary source of fresh water, supporting biodiversity, and providing opportunities for fishing, recreation, and tourism,” the EU Delegation to Armenia said in a Facebook post.
