Agrifood Partnership Investment Forum supports Moldova’s preparations to join EU agricultural market

The Agrifood Partnership Investment Forum was held in Chisinau, Moldova, on 5 March. The event was supported by the European Union, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova.

The event aimed to support Moldova’s preparations to join the EU agricultural market by adopting European rules and establishing partnerships.

According to the EU Delegation to Moldova, concrete steps were outlined at the Forum: more exports and investments in horticulture, animal husbandry, and the wine sector; faster alignment with EU standards; and new partnerships between Moldovan producers and European companies.

EU Ambassador to Moldova Iwona Piórko said: “Moldova has already taken important steps to align itself with the principles of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy, as well as with EU food safety and phytosanitary standards. Chapter 11 on Agriculture and Rural Development and Chapter 12 on Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Policy, which are currently under negotiation, are among the most difficult to implement, and Moldova is fully engaged in this reform process.”

The EU supports Moldova’s agriculture with technical assistance and funding through the €1.9 billion Growth Plan, where agriculture is a priority.
