This factsheet presents the main challenges and how the EU is working to support gender equality in the Eastern Neighbourhood.
Gender equality is a core value of the EU and a universally recognised human right, an imperative for a functioning democracy, wellbeing, economic growth, prosperity, good governance, peace and security. The EU is fully committed to support the Eastern partner countries in achieving gender equality. Progress has been made over the past years, but gender inequality persists, and gender stereotypes still hold women back.
