Discovering a patriarchal status quo: Where are we heading? Study on population perceptions of gender roles in the decision-making process

This study conducted by the Development Partnership Centre examines public perceptions regarding gender roles in decision-making within the context of the November 2023 local elections in the Republic of Moldova. It highlights persistent gender biases favouring men in political positions, particularly for higher offices.

This report analyses existing stereotypes and perceptions among the population regarding the role of women and men in the decision-making process. The analysis of voter perceptions provides information about how men and women are perceived in the decision-making process, depending on their qualities, skills and abilities. If significant differences are found in the way voters perceive female candidates compared to male candidates, stakeholders can intervene and implement the necessary policies to reduce existing inequalities and promote an authentic and inclusive democracy.
