On 30 November, the Delegation of the European Union to Azerbaijan organised a debate on gender-based violence inspired by Colleen Hoover’s novel It ends with us.
The aim of the event was to stimulate discussion around the themes highlighted in the book.
It ends with us was published in 2016. The story, based on the relationship between Colleen Hoover’s mother and father, explores themes of domestic violence and emotional abuse.
This public event brought together Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) and a number of young people.
In her opening speech, Mariyana Kuyundzhich, the Ambassador of the European Union to Azerbaijan, said: “Gender-based violence is a serious human rights violation that prevents women and girls from participating fully in society – putting an end to it is our shared responsibility.”
The discussion, which was moderated by Azerbaijani publishers Nigar Kocharli and Shahbaz Khuduoghlu, concluded with a question-and-answer session.
The Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) initiative brings together socially engaged youth from the six Eastern Partner countries, the European Union and the United Kingdom to foster dialogue and to raise awareness about the EU and its cooperation with its Eastern partner countries.
