WHO and EU deliver pharmaceutical refrigerator to Belarus to support COVID-19 vaccination

The World Health Organization (WHO) Office in Belarus has supplied 75 pharmaceutical refrigerator-freezers to the country.

The equipment was delivered as part of the COVID-19 vaccination training and roll-out programme in the Eastern Partnership countries funded by the European Union.

The freezers are designed to store vaccines (including against COVID-19), other pharmaceutical products and related materials at different temperatures ranging from +8℃ to -40℃ .

The equipment will be distributed to healthcare institutions providing vaccination services throughout the country.

“Vaccines are highly sensitive biological substances. A very important condition for keeping full activity of vaccines before their administration into the human body is to provide correct temperature regime during their transportation and storage, so called ‘cold chain’ compliance,” said Veronika Vysotskaya, Head of the Epidemiology Department of the Republican Centre for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health. “The use of high-quality modern refrigeration equipment will make it possible to optimise and improve the stability of the functioning cold chain system in the Republic of Belarus.”
