Trans-European Transport Network: Two sections of major roads in Moldova open with EU support

On 8 November, a 19-kilometre stretch of the Porumbrei-Cimislia road was opened. The European Investment Bank provided a preferential loan of €30 million for its construction. This new section is a part of the M3, Chișinău – Giurgiulești road, which is part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).

A stretch of another road – the ring road around Bahmut, located in Moldova’s Calarasi district – was officially opened today, on 9 November. The road was also built with EU support and is already open to traffic.

The Bakhmut bypass is part of the R1 Chisinau-Ungheni-Romanian border national road, which has a total length of 6 km.

The total cost of this project was approximately €8 million. The money was provided as a grant by the European Union through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) under the EU Roads Rehabilitation Programme.

This programme aims to build and repair the main road routes in the Republic of Moldova providing access to EU markets, in particular by connecting Moldova to the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), which is a priority of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement.
