On 24 February, the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, European Council President António Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and the entire College of Commissioners travelled to Kyiv.
“This symbolic visit reaffirmed the EU’s unwavering support for Ukraine and its people, as Russia and its leadership bear sole responsibility for the war and the atrocities committed against the Ukrainian population,” says a Facebook post by the EU Delegation to Ukraine.

The leaders paid tribute to all those who have sacrificed their lives and have lost loved ones for Ukraine’s independence and freedom. They laid candles in a joint ceremony for honouring the Fallen Heroes at the People’s Memorial on the Maidan, alongside President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska.
