‘The Kremlin won’t break our resolve’: Kaja Kallas and von der Leyen welcome 16th sanctions package

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas today welcomed the agreement on the EU’s new sanctions package against Russia – the 16th since the start of the full-scale war in February 2022.

“The EU is clamping down even harder on circumvention by targeting more vessels in Putin’s shadow fleet and imposing new import and export bans,” Von der Leyen posted on X. “We are committed to keep up the pressure on the Kremlin.”

“With tighter measures on circumvention, new import and export bans, and sanctions on Putin’s shadow fleet, we are closing backdoors for Russia’s war machine to operate,” Kaja Kallas said on X. “The Kremlin won’t break our resolve.”

The previous package was adopted on 16 December 2024.
