Strong Women, Strong Society: EU Delegation to Azerbaijan launches campaign on gender equality

On 12 March, the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan marked International Women’s Day with a special event under the slogan “Strong Women, Strong Society” and launched a new campaign highlighting gender equality and the empowerment of women in society.

“Improved gender equality contributes to a stronger society,” the EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Peter Michalko, said. “That is why the European Union’s latest Gender Equality Strategy includes key objectives for ending gender-based violence, challenging gender stereotypes, closing gender gaps in the labour market, achieving equal participation across different sectors of the economy, and achieving gender balance in decision-making and politics.”

The event was attended by EU ambassadors and diplomats and beneficiaries of EU-funded projects who shared their success stories and evaluated initiatives supporting women’s development.

The event also featured two exhibitions – Colours of Europe and Outstanding Polish Women.

On 7 March, the Delegation of the European Union to Azerbaijan, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in Baku, and the Young European Ambassadors (YEAs), organised an event – ‘Breaking Barriers & Overcoming Challenges’ – celebrating the resilience, leadership, and impact of women in diplomacy, STEM, and the arts.
