The EU-funded programme assisting Belarusian students, lecturers, and researchers forced to flee the regime, has launched its fourth phase, changing its title from SALT to ‘Education for Belarusians’. The programme is implemented by the Central Project Management Agency (CPVA, Lithuania).
In January, the programme released its newsletter where it shares the expected results and current and upcoming opportunities for Belarusians.
The programme will provide around 300 scholarships for Belarusian students (cost-of-living scheme), around 40 academic fellowships for Belarusian scholars (research, mobility, cooperation with EU universities), and support for up to 900 students from the European Humanitarian Institute (based in exile in Vilnius, Lithuania) per year. The initiative also plans to establish a Women in Tech (WiT) Hub at EHU’s Gender Studies Centre to support women’s participation and employment in the IT sector.
The newsletter also describes EdTech4BY, an EU-funded programme that helps Belarusian educators and EdTech creators living in Europe to develop modern digital learning solutions, and shares two personal stories from current scholarship recipients.
The publication also presents the results of an independent survey conducted by RAIT Group. The survey shows that the programme has had a significant impact on the Belarusian community. The results indicate that the SALT programme is particularly important for Belarusian academic and civic communities that have formed in Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Lithuania.
