House of Europe opens temporary ‘embassy’ in Kharkiv

On 17 February, the EU-funded ‘House of Europe’ project opened its temporary ‘embassy’ – a Pop-up Hub – at the ‘Baggage’ school of marketing and communications in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

Until 5 June 2022, the Pop-up Hub will welcome anyone who would like to get information about House of Europe opportunities first hand. The project also invites locals to join interactive masterclasses, film screenings, concerts, and a final surprise party.

“It is probably nowhere more topical than in Kharkiv, 40km from the Russian border and the troops amassed there with one unfriendly message: to sever the European ties and trajectory of Ukraine. With partial success, unfortunately: many internationals, including me, had to fly out of Ukraine, many against their will and conviction. But the Pop-up Hub is happening anyway, thanks to the resilience and determination of our partner ‘Baggage’,” said Christian Diemer, Head of the House of Europe programme. “This is a powerful statement – that Ukraine stands firmly with the European Union in those challenging times.” 

The first phase of the Pop-up Hub programme will be from 17 February until 13 March and will host 15 events aimed at culture and creative industries professionals, social entrepreneurs, health, education, and media workers, youth and youth workers. The second part will focus on individual consultations on grants and programmes of the House of Europe. 

The Pop-up Hub culminates with the House of Europe Festival of creativity, innovations and entrepreneurship on 4-5 June. Its programme will be announced in May.
