Georgia: Borrell and Zourabishvili discuss regional consequences of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine

On 23 March, EU High Representative Josep Borrell held a phone call with Georgian President Zourabishvili to discuss the regional consequences of Russia’s illegal and unjustified aggression against Ukraine.

High Representative Borrell stressed the European Union’s support to Georgia in the context of the invasion of Ukraine and assured President Zourabishvili that the EU stands ready to step up its cooperation with Georgia to strengthen its resilience.

Borrell also said that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has created a humanitarian disaster of enormous scale, gravely undermined European security and is in full violation of international principles and international law. They discussed the implications of these developments on regional security, as well as the negative economic impact provoked by Russia’s aggression.

Borrell also reaffirmed the EU’s unwavering commitment to Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty within its internationally recognised borders.
