European Heritage Awards: World Vyshyvanka Day receives public Choice Award

The Ukrainian World Vyshyvanka Day initiative has won the Public Choice Awards of the European Heritage Awards that honour individuals and communities for their outstanding commitment to preserve European heritage.

The European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards are co-funded by the Creative Europe programme, the dedicated EU-funded programme for the cultural and audiovisual sector.

World Vyshyvanka Day is an annual holiday celebrated internationally, it helps preserve the iconic Ukrainian embroidered shirt (vyshyvanka) as an important element of the heritage of the Ukrainian people.

In 2022, for the first time ever, the winner of the Public’s Choice Award will receive a cash prize of €10,000 – the same as the five Grand Prix winners.

Grand Prix winners from across the EU have been awarded for outstanding initiatives, including the preservation of European silk heritage, classical music heritage and Sentiero Italia, the longest hiking route in the world.
