EUAM Ukraine hands over IT equipment to Cyber Police to counter online recruitment by criminal networks

At the beginning of January, the EU Advisory Mission (EUAM) Ukraine handed over specialised IT equipment to the 5th Division of the Cyber Police of the National Police of Ukraine to strengthen its ability to combat online recruitment by organised criminal groups.

The new tools will allow cyber officers to detect and analyse online recruitment networks at an early stage, link digital traces to organised criminal groups, produce stronger Internet Organised Crime Threat Assessments (IOCTA), and turn online intelligence into real-world arrests and disruption.

“During a war, online recruitment fuels everything from organised crime to targeted violence. Disrupting these networks means fewer crimes on the streets and fewer people drawn into criminal or violent acts online,” says a press release by EUAM Ukraine.

Since the launch in 2014, the EU Advisory Mission to Ukraine has focused on supporting reforms of the National Police of Ukraine. At the same time, following the start of the full-scale invasion, EUAM received a request from the Ukrainian authorities to expand its support in response to new challenges related to the war.
