In mid-July, with the support of the EU-funded EU4Innovation East project, ESIL Moldova (Early Stage Investing Launchpad Moldova) was launched – a new initiative designed to strengthen the country’s business angel ecosystem and prepare a new generation of investors capable of supporting innovative startups with both capital and expertise.
Over the next two years, ESIL Moldova will provide aspiring and experienced business angels with access to training, mentoring, networking opportunities and connections to established investor communities across Europe.
The programme will also create opportunities for start-up pitching and encourage cross-border investment partnerships, particularly with Romania’s well-established angel investment ecosystem. Participants will take part in capacity-building workshops, peer-to-peer learning sessions, masterclasses and pitching events covering key topics such as start-up evaluation, deal flow, syndication and cross-border investing. Activities will be organised both in Chișinău and online.
“Moldova has talented entrepreneurs with strong innovation potential, but vibrant start-up ecosystems do not emerge from entrepreneurs alone – they also require investors who are willing to share their experience, mentor founders and take informed risks on new ideas,” said Charles Mathiaux, Deputy Project Director of EU4Innovation East. “Through ESIL Moldova, we are helping cultivate exactly that type of community by strengthening local angel investing capacity and connecting Moldovan investors with experienced peers from Romania and across Europe. Our ambition is to accelerate the development of a more active, connected and internationally engaged investment ecosystem that gives promising start-ups the support they need to grow and scale.”
ESIL Moldova builds on the experience of the Early Stage Investing Launchpad (ESIL), which since 2017 has supported the development of business angel ecosystems across Europe, particularly in countries where organised early-stage investment remains underdeveloped, including Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, Czechia, Hungary, and Croatia.
Individuals interested in business angel investing, start-up growth and innovation in Moldova can learn more and subscribe to receive updates on upcoming activities and opportunities by visiting ESIL Moldova website.
ESIL Moldova is a two-year initiative implemented by META Group, Business Angels Europe (BAE), TechAngels Romania and the Moldovan Technology Transfer Network (MTTN). It is funded by the European Union and co-funded by the French Government through Expertise France as part of the EU4Innovation East programme.
