EU-funded project helps renovate Care and Assistance Centre for Older Persons in Soroca District of Moldova

With the support of the European Union and the Soros Foundation Moldova, 50 elderly residents of the Care and Assistance Centre for Older Persons in the village of Bădiceni, located in the Soroca District of northern Moldova, and the institution’s staff, will now benefit from improved living and working conditions.

The centre was renovated as part of the EU-funded project ‘Decent Living Conditions through Improving the Energy Efficiency of the Care and Assistance Centre for Older Persons / ‘Acasă’ Residential Home in Bădiceni’.

The project aimed to improve the building’s energy efficiency, enhance residents’ comfort, and reduce the institution’s maintenance costs. It included comprehensive energy-efficiency renovation works, such as thermal insulation of the building, façade renovation, and the installation of heat recovery ventilation units to ensure efficient ventilation and a healthy indoor climate. 

The project also focused on enhancing the quality of social services provided by the Centre through the provision of furniture and equipment, staff training, and awareness-raising and community engagement activities promoting responsible energy use. Through a local campaign, ‘Consume Less, Live Better! Energy Efficiency Starts with You!’, families in Bădiceni were encouraged to adopt energy-efficient practices in their own households, contributing to the responsible use of resources and promoting a sustainable lifestyle.

The project ‘Decent Living Conditions through Improving the Energy Efficiency of the Care and Assistance Centre for Older Persons / ‘Acasă’ Residential Home in Bădiceni’ is implemented by the NGO Casa Speranțelor in partnership with the North-East Territorial Social Assistance Agency and the Soroca District Council, with financial support from the European Union as part of the project ‘Local Partnerships for Energy Efficiency in Social Services’, co-funded and implemented by the Soros Foundation Moldova in partnership with Keystone Moldova and the Social Innovation Fund Moldova.
