EU to support access to education in Ukraine and repatriation of evacuated patients

On 24 November, the European Union adopted a new crisis response measure to support the war-affected population of Ukraine.

This new €10 million measure will focus on access to education in areas particularly affected by Russia’s war of aggression, including areas recently liberated from Russian military control and areas with large numbers of internally displaced persons.

This will include support for both offline and online school solutions, including the rehabilitation or construction of shelters, classrooms and other facilities, for example, for sports or psychological support and counselling, or modular school centres. Municipalities and school administrations will be supported in crisis management, as well as psychological support for their staff and students.

The measure will also cover the repatriation of Ukrainian patients who have received medical care in the EU and wish to return to Ukraine, as well as strengthening the surgical and treatment capacity of the Ukrainian healthcare system in the field of trauma care.
