EU-supported COVAX Facility delivers almost 474,000 doses of BioNTech/Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to Ukraine

Until 20 May, Ukraine will receive 473,850 doses of the BioNTech/Pfizer-COVID-19 vaccine through the EU-supported COVAX Facility. This is the third and so far largest COVID-19 vaccine delivery to Ukraine via COVAX.

Total of 378,000 doses are intended for professionals from the education sphere. Аnother part of vaccines will go to priority groups from the first and second stages of the vaccination campaign. More batches of the vaccines are expected to come to Ukraine in the coming months through COVAX.

Ukraine joined COVAX with the support of Team Europe, the WHO, UNICEF and other international partners. BioNTech/Pfizer vaccines are being delivered by the UNICEF supply department.

As part of the Team Europe approach, since early 2020 the EU has mobilised over 190 million to help Ukraine face the challenges of COVID-19, supporting its health system, frontline workers, small and medium-sized businesses and vulnerable groups. It has activated its Civil Protection Mechanism to transfer medical equipment and supplies from EU Member States to Ukraine and is providing emergency Macro-Financial Assistance worth €1.2 billion to Ukraine to help limit the economic fallout of the pandemic.
