EU provides advanced document examination equipment to Georgia
The EU has donated advanced document inspection devices to Georgia, with a total value of €70,000 (GEL 250,000), to help the authorities to combat irregular migration and enhance border security.
The devices will be deployed in the Kutaisi laboratory of the Interior Ministry’s Forensic-Criminalistic Department and will contribute to the examination of travel documents at Kutaisi International Airport.
This action is part of a significant EU-funded programme, implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in the areas of migration and border management. This support will be followed by other procurement and training activities that will ensure strengthening of Georgia’s border protection capacities in compliance with the benchmarks of the EU visa-free travel suspension mechanism.
