The Energy Community Secretariat announced yesterday that the Ukraine Energy Support Fund (UESF) has reached €629 million, bolstered by a €96 million contribution from the European Union. This funding will be crucial in addressing the urgent needs of Ukrainian energy companies, enabling repairs to critical infrastructure, procurement of essential equipment, and maintaining energy and heat supply.
“Ukraine faces its third winter at war this year. The damage to its energy infrastructure, caused by relentless and targeted Russian attacks, has been devastating, and the energy needs for the upcoming 2024/2025 winter are now more critical than ever. Immediate and increased support is vital to ensuring Ukraine has the energy it needs to endure,” the Energy Community Secretariat said in a press release.
The Secretariat said the UESF remained the most effective international mechanism, directly addressing urgent needs on the ground and delivering vital aid where it was needed most. It is administered by the Energy Community Secretariat in coordination with the European Commission, the Ukrainian authorities, and the broader international community.
The Energy Community also urged international partners to contribute to the UESF. “Donations are more than just aid – they provide hope and resilience to a nation braving a brutal winter in the face of unrelenting aggression,” the press release said.
